Surely, if you’ve ever laid ears upon the Miracles’ hit, “Tracks of My Tears” or “Going To A Go-Go,” or “The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage,” you are familiar with Tarplin’s special touch on the guitar - a bluesy, acidic but melodic tone that was an essential element to Smokey Robinson’s own compositional magic. Tarplin also co-wrote all the aforementioned songs and many others, including Marvin Gaye’s “I’ll Be Doggone” and “Ain’t That Peculiar.”
In addition, if I may say so, he was a living dream, looking clean with his process and guitar. Much love to Mr. Tarplin, peaceful journey brother. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world. My heart is with all of the Miracles today.
